Hey I forgot to tell everyone a funny story earlier( i think it is funny anyway). It has to do with Rusty, blood, and a date with me! Rusty if you are reading this, I sorry sweetie, but I had to share it. Anyway, last week I was really tired and needed a break, so I asked Rusty if he would want to go out on a "date" Friday night. I asked my mom to keep Jameson and all was set up for us to have a night out by ourselves with no crying, feeding, whining. Just us! I was off of work on Friday and had been looking forward to going out later that night. I had everything planned out, where to eat, what to do, stores I wanted to shop in. I was really excited. So, I took Jameson to my moms and met Rusty when he got off of work. He told me that he was going to give blood before we left and would meet me at my moms house around 4. Things were good until around 4. My brother called me (he is the director of the wellness center where Rusty was giving blood) and tells me that Rusty has passed out, thrown up twice, and was not doing good. He said he could not walk, much less drive. So I head up to the wellness center and find Rusty as white as a ghost, wet with sweat, and sipping on some Sprite. I asked him if he was alright. He said he was and said he would be fine once he got home. Well you know me, I have to have all the details. So I ask my sick husband what happened. He said he passed out and when he woke up he didn't know what happened. My brother told me that he started jerking (which scared me). I immediately asked the nurse (who I don't think was a real nurse) if he had had a seizure. She said she didn't think so, but soon after that got Rusty out of the chair and told him not to forget his cookies! Which I thought was hilarious! Me, Rusty (ghost man), and my brother go out to the car. Meanwhile, in the back of my mind I am thinking, "man, I hope we can still go out". Rusty gets to my moms and sleeps for 3 hours! Around 7 I decided we had better call off the date! Ha Ha......sounds selfish, but I was so needing some time away. This may not be funny to you, but if you know Rusty, you know he is a big guy and usually cool and collected. So to see him so sick just from giving blood, it was kind of comical. We finally came to the conclusion that either his blood pressure dropped too quickly or his blood sugar dropped. Since the so called "nurse" had no idea, we diagnosed him ourselves. Rusty gives blood all the time and has now decided that he will never do it again, especially on a "date night"! :)

I had another "big guy" friend (much bigger than Rusty...more like 6'8" and 300 lbs) in MS who passed out after the first time he gave blood because he squeezed the stress ball continually instead of squeeze, relax, squeeze, relax, etc. He hit the floor. He would never again give even after we told him the "proper" way to do it. =)
